I’m a member of many local community Facebook pages. And, recently, I have been tagged a lot in discussions where people are asking for recommendations for a jeweler they can trust. Which is a great thing! But, it got me thinking… why are strangers going to choose my name over the many other jewelers that are being tagged? How do you know you can trust your jeweler?
DON’T BE A SKEPTIC!
I believe that people are generally a little skeptical of jewelers. We’ve all heard that horrible story about a jeweler that stole your grandmother’s stone or lost your ring all together. There are definitely isolated incidents, and jewelers are human (mistakes can be made) but, trust me (no pun intended), most jewelers will do everything they can to make you happy and gain your trust. We do EVERYTHING to uphold our reputation- because that’s our livelihood. We don’t want the negative impression that the public has and strive to build a loyal costumer base.
REPUTATION IS EVERYTHING!
Reputation definitely matters. If you are getting recommended from a lot of friends to go to the same jeweler, they are probably going to attempt their very best to make you happy. Always check the BBB. It’s good to work with a jeweler that has been around in the community for awhile. I think it speaks volumes that my great-grandfather started the business and four generations later we are still here! That has to say something about the company. Word of mouth goes a LONG way- which is why I think so many people are asking for a recommendation for a jeweler from friends, family, neighbors and co-workers. It feels better to go meet a jeweler when you know someone that has been there before (and been happy).
CERTIFICATION AND APPRAISALS ARE VALUABLE!
Most diamonds will come with a certification. Those laminated reports tell you that everything your jeweler is telling you is accurate. It gives you the official grading of the stone on paper (from an outside source- usually the GIA). Also, always ask your jeweler for an appraisal of what you are purchasing. That way if something does happen, your insurance will cover it!
TRUST, TRUST, TRUST!
The advice I really want to give is… trust your jeweler… until they give you a reason not to. We work hard to make you happy- and we aren’t risking that. It just isn’t worth it. I PROMISE.
